Gilded Unicorn
Downtown Spokane · Speakeasy Comfort Food & Craft Cocktails
We haven't made it in for a visit yet, so this one's built from what fellow diners and locals are saying — we'll update it with our own take once we've pulled up a chair.
Tucked beneath the historic Montvale Hotel, Gilded Unicorn is genuinely one of the more distinctive spaces in downtown Spokane — stone walls, faux gold, and a fireplace nook that make it feel like nowhere else in the city. Adam Hegsted's kitchen turns out reimagined American comfort food: deviled eggs, duck wings with house kimchi, and a tater tot casserole regulars call "Treat Yo Self" for good reason, alongside a well-loved $3-5 happy hour that lets you sample a lot of the menu without committing to a full dinner.
The tables sit close together, which some find part of the charm and others find a bit cramped, and a dish here or there (a dry meatloaf, a so-so cocktail) has drawn the occasional complaint. None of that takes away from just how unique the setting is — a fun, memorable pick for a date night or a "something different downtown" evening.
