Foodie Review
Tagliare Delicatessen
Airway Heights · Italian Deli & Market, Est. 2026
The only bad thing I can say about Tagliare is that it's too far from my house. I've been going to this deli since the only location was in Missoula, and I'm fairly certain I've worked my way through every sandwich on the menu — they're all good enough that I can't pick a favorite. Names like the Megadeth, the Cheap Trick, and the Clash tell you most of what you need to know about the personality of the place. Matt and Kira Benzel have pulled off another great deli, and I'll be going every chance I get. Don't walk past the market side, either — the charcuterie boards are worth the stop on their own.
Tagliare has been a Missoula fixture for the better part of twenty years, and it's changed hands more than once along the way. Since Matt and Kira Benzel bought the deli, they've grown it into two Missoula shops and earned the sandwiches national notice. Airway Heights is the third location and the first in Washington, and it opened in February 2026 — co-owned by Van Vega, who grew up in Cheney, worked at Tagliare on and off through college while studying business at the University of Montana, and pitched Benzel on bringing it west. The build is a deli and a specialty market in one room: sandwiches like the Sublime, with prosciutto, hot sopressata, burrata, and sundried tomatoes, alongside imported goods, cured meats, and boards to take home.
Two honest things before you go. This is Airway Heights, out past the airport, so from most of Spokane it's a deliberate drive rather than a stop you make on the way to something else — go when the sandwich is the plan. And it keeps deli hours rather than dinner hours, so check before you point the car west. What you get for the drive is a counter that takes sandwiches seriously, in a town that has never had enough of them.
