I've been to both Onions, and downtown is my favorite of the two. It's the original, and it has always had the better feel — a bit more polished, a bit more professional.
The menu runs the same broad range as the north location — burgers and sandwiches, pastas, fish and chips — so a table that can't agree still gets fed. The difference is the room: downtown is the older one, and it carries itself that way.
Downtown parking is the usual downtown parking, and it fills around events. Worth it. If I'm picking between the two, this is the one.
